SOMATOSCOPIC OBSERVATION AMONG NICOBARESE TRIBES OF ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLAND

Abstract


Somatoscopy is the observation and description of morphological features of individuals. It describes the physical traits, which are not indicated by measurements. Somatoscopy is being used by anthropologist for last hundred years to assess variations in such character in different populations. A large numbers of these characters are genetically determined while some are influenced by environment. An attempt has been in this study to present somatoscopic observation have been analyzed with the help of charts and standard module. The various Somatoscopic observations features have been taken and presented in the study. Sample involves 100 Nicobarese males and females of Andaman and Nicobar Island. The purpose of this study knows the Somatoscopic variability traits in the case of Nicobarese. In the absence of any collective memory it is not possible to trace their past link. Conclusion drawn from this study can be great importance not only to physical anthropologist but also to racial identification, plastic surgeons, physicians and the field of forensic science etc.
