AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF THE USE OF LIBRARY SCIENCE WITH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
Information science should not be confused with information theory or library science. Information theory is the study of a particular mathematical concept of information. Information science as an academic discipline is often taught in combination with Library science as Library and Information Science. Library science as such is a field related to the dissemination of information through libraries making use of the principles of information science. Information science per se deals with all related processes and techniques including generation, packaging, dissemination, refining, repackaging, usage, etc. through any modes. The growth of application of IT in number of areas coupled with its success prompted many libraries to adopt IT and use it for various library operations and services. This article indicates that library can be managed in better way by using information technology.
